Grey Blending Masterclass with GLOSS: Formulas, Techniques and Client Conversations
The conversation around grey has fundamentally changed. A growing number of clients want to blend their grey, not cover it — a natural, low-maintenance result that softens contrast while letting some silver show. This is where Affinage Gloss Liquid Demi excels.
The Client Conversation
Before mixing, ask: “How do you feel about your grey? Do you want maximum coverage, to soften it, or embrace it?” Many clients have never been asked — they’ve been defaulted into full coverage. Grey blending is the third option they’ve been wanting.
Set expectations: grey blending reduces contrast between grey and pigmented hair, creating a soft, lived-in result. Remaining grey looks intentional, like a natural highlight. And because it’s demi-permanent, it fades without a hard regrowth line — meaning longer intervals between appointments.

Example Formula
Natural Brunette Grey Blend
Gloss 6.0. Apply to towel-dried hair in the chair with 1.5% Developer (1:2). Process 20 min. Result: softened grey with warm, natural brunette tone.
Application Technique
Apply to freshly shampooed towel dried hair, apply mixed formula generously roots to ends, massage for even distribution. Process 20 minutes. Emulsify, light shampoo with a low PH shampoo such as Affinage Hydrating Shampoo or Repair Shampoo, lock in colour with Affinage Miracle Repair Mask and style as usual.
Pricing and Positioning
Position grey blending as a premium service, not a lesser version of full coverage. Frame it as bespoke and modern. Price at or near your standard colour service — product cost is minimal, processing time is short, and client satisfaction is exceptionally high. Offer every six to eight weeks and you’ve built a loyal, low-maintenance colour client.
